Rosa Fernandez and Gonzalo Giribet's paper: "Unnoticed in the tropics: phylogenomic resolution of the poorly-known arachnid order Ricinulei (Arachnida)" was accepted to the Royal Society Open Science .
From May 4th to May 9th Postdoctoral researcher Dennis K. Persson and PhD student Julia G. Cosgrove, of the Giribet Lab, conducted field work in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The aim were to collect tardigrades (Tardigrada) and pseudoscorpions (Arthropoda: Arachnida). Tardigrades would be extracted from mosses and lichens under microscope, whereas pseudoscorpions would be found by sifting of leaf litter. A number of tardigrade species, such as Macrobiotus Islandicus, Echiniscus virginicus, Paramacrobiotus tonollii and Milnesium,...
The description of three new tropical families of arachnids and a phylogeny of the suborder Laniatores by graduate student Prashant Sharma of the Giribet Lab is featured on the cover of Invertebrate Systematics.
Second International Congress on Invertebrate Morphology hosted by MCZ, OEB and HMNH from June 20-23, 2011. The conference connected researchers interested in the morphology and evolution of invertebrate animals.
Graduate student, Prashant Sharma, received the Willi Hennig Award for the best oral presentation by a student at the May 2010 meeting of the Willi Hennig Society. The international organization promotes the field of phylogenetic systematics. 5/25/2010
